"Make it simple, but significant."
- Don Draper (Mad Men)
As I approach Writing Project #5, I am evaluating which website I will select for my analysis. I have narrowed down my choice to three websites I think will work for the project. Every website is a non-profit and is related to animals or environmental conservation. I have chosen these organizations because I am very passionate about the work being done to support those topics' issues.
Each website uses a layout that helps visitors understand the purpose of their work. Non-profit foundations need to convey their objectives, goals, and purpose quickly. If the website visitors understand the foundation's purpose quickly, they are more likely to donate and support the cause. These organizations can accomplish this by understanding their target audience and creating a straightforward process for those interested in helping.
Grace Gorillas has a very eye-catching and appealing website. They grab visitor's attention with a live webcam set up at their sanctuary that watches their gorillas. Finding information about the staff, facility, and gorillas is simple and listed on the home page and other dedicated pages. Finding the purpose and directed audience for this website was easy due to the accessible layout and striking photos and videos.
The Wildlife Conservation website has a very neutral color layout with bright multimodal elements. Navigating the website is easy, as the navigation bar is located on the side of the site no matter what page you are on. The layout is not the most appealing, but the information is conveyed straightforwardly for any visitor.
Return to Freedom has a stunning home page. The header is a video of wild horses running through a field. This element draws visitors in and encourages them to stay and learn more about their organization. The second thing you see on their website is breaking news about wild horses and their habitats. The headlines they provide give the audience information as to why their work is important. This website is easy to navigate with helpful multimodal elements. Their site provides critical information about the wild horse crisis and how anyone can help save the horses' homes.
As I reflect on my selected websites, I have decided which I will be using for the Rhetorical Analysis project. Return to Freedom works with a cause that I am very passionate about, so I have decided to use it for my project. The website has excellent information and can be further evaluated to create a detailed and thorough analysis.
